2023 Tucson Festival of Books Reflection

The 2023 Festive of Books did not disappoint.  I enjoyed listening to several Latinx authors.  I had the opportunity to reunite with Dr. Miguel Montiel and Dr. Yvonne de la Torre Montiel, two former colleagues during my time as a student and staff member at Arizona State University. Their book, World of our Mothers: Mexican Revolution-Era Immigrants and Their Stories, contains over 45 stories based on interviews translated and collected during the 1970’s.  As a grandchild of Mexican immigrants, I related to their challenges crossing the border, the hardships that immigrant women endured and their quest for a better life.

A highlight of the festival was meeting Robert Samuels at the Authors Table event on March 3, 2023.  Robert Samuels co-authored with Toluse Olorunnipa the book, His Name is George Floyd. One Man’s Life and the Struggle for Racial Justice.  This is a must read given the current racial and social justice issues our country is facing.
